Save the Internet!
Net neutrality is a ragging topic in the past weeks especially in India as Airtel introduced a new platform "AirtelZero", where the users can access the partner websites without cost or at a reduced prices.
Accessing a website or an app without any cost seems to a cool idea for the end users, but that's not entirely true. If you're wondering what net neutrality is, it's a ethic of making Internet, a level and equal platform for everyone, meaning access to all sites at same speed without any priority.
Recently in India, telecom providers started "pay per app or site" plans, which is against the basic fabric of net neutrality.
The problem with some services and platforms given more priority over others, is that it cuts the competition. When you can access fb for free, you won't go for its competing sites. You get what I mean, right? A healthy completion was the key factor for everyone for improve their current services. When monopoly comes into play, disaster follows.
Save the Internet. Save your freedom.
Users have been very vocal about the issue over reddit, twitter with the hastag #saveinternet. Airtel even dropped their VoIP pack due to the social media rampage of the users. Zomato's CEO also said "we couldn't have built zomato if we had a competitor in services like AirtelZero".
TRAI is currently accepting suggestion from users on this issue, so make your voice heard through www.savetheinternet.in
Net neutrality is no new topic over Internet, where carriers like even verizon capping the Netflix speeds. So do you think the carriers should stop all these sort of things or just a cool way to access sites for free? Do let at know in the comments below.
