Google announces Android One

Google I/O developer conference, a two day event kicked off yesterday 9.30 PM IST. Sundar Pichai announced a new program called "Android One".

Android One promises budget devices, a faster updates to the next version of android as like the Nexus and Google Play Edition Smartphones.

Under this program, the manufacturers can tie up with Google for direct software updates, while maintaining the reference design and specifications provided by Google. Now this is important, a reference hardware is necessary to optimise the software. Now this means a faster updates to the next version of android as like the Nexus and Google Play Edition Smartphones.

For now he announced that the program will kick off in India with three homegrown manufacturers - Micromax, Karbonn, Spice, we hope will expand to other regions as well. He also noted about a phone made by Micromax which features a dual-sim, sd card slot and 4.5 inch (resolution not mentioned) which is under $100 (roughly Rs:6000) which is cheaper than the Moto E. We guess that this might be the rumored "Android Silver" program, but still we have a day left in the Google IO Conference.

For those who are planning to buy a low cost smartphone, especially in India, we recommend you to wait for the handset with android one initiative.

The wait is worth the benefits you get. You'll be getting the latest software, I means a pure android experience aside the limitations of the budget hardware. So stay tuned.

Let us know what you think about Android One, will you wait for it or go for the tier one alternatives like the Moto E..
